Instacart Debuts ‘Big & Bulky’ Same-Day Delivery Service for Retailers

Instacart launched a “Big & Bulky” program for its retail partners, a press release said Wednesday (Aug. 24), offering same-day delivery on large items.

Retail partners include Big Lots, Container Store, Mastermind Toys, Office Depot, Staples and Spirit Halloween.

Big & Bulky will be powered by Carrot Delivery, which is an Instacart platform enterprise solution allowing end-to-end fulfillment for retailers. Retailers can deliver items like outdoor furniture, electronics and office supplies, and customers can order groceries and household goods alongside large orders.

Instacart shoppers who drive large vehicles will be able to shop batches of larger items for more earnings opportunities. The company touts this as a way for them to “maximize shoppers’ earnings potential.”

“At Staples, we’re giving customers access to even more same-day delivery offerings through an expanded assortment on the Instacart platform,” said Ory Adler, vice president, digital and eCommerce at Staples US Retail. “This omnichannel approach allows us to remain on standby for customers, whether they need fast access to back-to-school supplies or items to build out their home office, and we look forward to our continued partnership.”

The company saw a boost in its revenues and orders in the second quarter, with shoppers still making use of online grocery delivery, PYMNTS wrote.

The company is also preparing to go public, which has been rare in the current environment because of how poorly many IPOs are going.

Revenue for the grocery delivery firm was 39% higher than it had been a year earlier, hitting $621 million for Q2. The reason for the growth was the higher number of orders on the app — which saw a 25% jump since last year, hitting over 60 million.
