Office Depot, OfficeMax Tout 20 Minute Pickup or $20 Off

Office Depot has announced a new initiative called the “20 Minute Pickup Promise” to guarantee fast in-store and curbside pickup ahead of the holiday season at both Office Depot and OfficeMax locations, according to a press release.

“We know our customers value convenience and friendly, helpful service, especially during the holiday season, which is a stressful time of the year for many,” said Office Depot Executive Vice President and Chief Retail Officer Kevin Moffitt in the release. “Whether purchasing items to prepare your small business for the holiday rush, upgrading a home office, or thanking a favorite teacher with a holiday gift, our store pickup program is an industry-leading promise to customers to get them what they need in 20 minutes or less.”

In addition, customers who place orders on the company site that aren’t ready on time will get an email within 48 hours and a $20 off coupon for their next qualifying purchase, the release stated.

That price was based on an offer to ODP Corp., which operates those stores, to buy the shares at $18.27 each. The offer also encompassed “the Office Depot and OfficeMax intellectual property, including all brand names.”

In May, ODP Corp. said it would be splitting its B2B unit away from the 1,100 physical chain stores. The intent was to make two independent publicly traded businesses which would be able to focus on what they were best at.

The spinoff came at a time when the retailer posted disappointing first-quarter results, showing sales declines in both businesses. Sales at its business solutions division fell 16% to $1.1 billion, while revenue in the retail division fell 10% to $1 billion.
