Walmart is celebrating a year of its Walmart GoLocal delivery-as-a-service offering, a press release from the company said with the company having made over a million deliveries through the service.
The company debuted the service last year as businesses were wanting to offer delivery services after the pandemic’s initial quarantine period.
Walmart GoLocal has tried to help clients reach out to customers with local delivery, including ways to find efficiencies, improve coverage and cut costs.
The retail giant has seen some successes in its time, with the company saying it has been able to drive density and offer competitive pricing because of the delivery volume on routes. GoLocal has served various categories of products like clothing, automotive, grocery, alcohol, electronics and more.
Walmart also said the service has seen partnerships with various enterprises to help them access customizable delivery solutions.
As the company goes forward, it said it wants to keep expanding its delivery offerings, including new additional services under GoLocal such as retail, logistics and eCommerce solutions. Walmart has also added other innovations lately, including a rewards program to help shoppers who have been trying to watch their budgets.
Called Walmart Rewards, PYMNTS reports that the program will let customers earn rewards on some items and, on future purchases, can apply them at checkout for savings.
“We know our customers and members are mindfully managing their budgets these days,” Chris Cracchiolo, senior vice president and general manager, Walmart+, said in the release. “That’s why we’re excited to introduce a new member perk that delivers compounding value: Walmart Rewards.”
It comes as PYMNTS has found through research that almost a third of Walmart shoppers say they signed up to get the member-only deals. Cracchiolo said over time, the company did plan to expand the program beyond rewards for items members had bought.
